- Review community’s voluntary policies and local ordinances or regulations and enforcement strategies to determine who has benefited and how successful they have been
- Review policies and enforcement strategies throughout the state and nation to determine what might work for your local community
- Complete public opinion poll and disseminate the information
Encourage Community Dialogue
- Publicly recognize voluntary smoke-free businesses in your community
- Disseminate list of smoke-free workplaces, restaurants, buildings to advocates and local media outlets
- Approach businesses that are voluntarily smoke-free and initiate discussion of secondhand smoke as a public health issue
- If there are any exemptions to existing smoke-free policy, encourage businesses to remove exemptions and go completely smoke-free
