The Kentucky Center for Smoke-Free Policy (KCSP), the Kentucky Tobacco Prevention & Cessation Program (KTPC), Kentucky Department of Public Health and the University of Kentucky (UK) College of Nursing celebrated their tobacco free successes and vision for a tobacco-free future at the 2019 Kentucky Tobacco Conference, "Envisioning a Smoke- free Future". The conference took place April 16 and 17 at the Embassy Suites in Lexington.

UK's BREATHE team recently partnered with Youth Empowered Solutions (YES) to host tobacco and youth advocacy training for leadership students of Hazard High School, as well as a training session for adult community advocates from around the state on the importance of youth empowerment and mentorship and how to engage youth in advocacy efforts.

Communities with strong laws against workplace smoking have lower rates of lung cancer, a new study from the University of Kentucky found. The study by anti-smoking advocate Ellen Hahn of the UK College of Nursing is the first to show that lung cancer rates go down when smoke-free laws cover workers and the general public from the dangers of second-hand smoke.

Representatives from the University of Kentucky College of Nursing recently met with eight Kentucky legislators on Capitol Hill on behalf of Friends of the National Institute for Nursing Research (FNINR), the advocacy arm of the National Institute for Nursing Research (NINR) which is one of 27 institutes of the National Institutes of Health that funds nurse researchers.
